Chapter 45: Saving Ash

Ash Ketchum laid dead on the floor of the Pokemon Center; the Nurse Joy had gone home for the night, leaving Jake, Misty, Brock and Pikachu alone with their dead friend. “Who? Who could have done this?” asked Misty, crying while in shock of the recent event.
“What has Ash ever done to deserve this?” asked Brock. Jake looked at the situation, rather perplexed to see Ash die a second time. He then had an idea.
“Porygon, plug into the computers of the hospital equipment, scan through his body, and see if there’s anything we can do to revive him!” Jake instructed his Porygon.
“Porygon, Porygon.” said Porygon, as it shot a USB cord from its body and plugged into the main CPU. Jake, Misty and Brock covered Ash’s body with pulse monitors.
“Scanning body.” said Porygon’s feminine computer voice. “Status: Deceased. Cause of Death: Arbok Venom from the neck. Curable: Yes.” Porygon said. “Bloodstream filled with venom, I can flush all venom out of his system and restart his heart. I need more power though.”
“Go Pikablu!” said Jake, releasing his Pikablu.”Pikablu, and Pikachu, I need you to use Thunderbolt on Porygon!
“Pika!” said Pikachu.
“Pika!” said Pikablu, and they both fired simultaneous Thunderbolts.
“Nnnngghhh!” said Porygon, resisting. “Need more Power!”
“Do it again guys!” ordered Jake, and Porygon was shocked again.
“Need more Power!” said Porygon.
“I know what it needs.” said Brock, grabbing a Poke Ball. “Go Vulpix!” he said, tossing it.
“Vulpix!” said Brock’s Vulpix.
“Use Flamethrower!” Brock commanded, and Vulpix blasted Porygon with its flames.
“Power increasing!” said Porygon.
“Go Staryu!” said Misty.
“Hi-ya!” said Staryu.
“Swift on Porygon!” Misty commanded, and Staryu shot Porygon with Speeding Stars.
“Power Increasing!” said Porygon. “80% Full.”
“Pikablu, Water Gun!” said Jake, and Pikablu shot a stream of water at Porygon. “Now, Ice Beam!” Jake commanded, and Pikablu shot an icy blast to Porygon.
“Bing Bing, 100% completed. Commencing body purification.” said Porygon, and it started to hum. “Commencing CPR Mode.” Just then, from the sounds of Porygon’s computer, a heartbeat noise emitted. “Heartbeat established. Body is alive!” Porygon finished.
“Alright! Good Job Porygon!” said Jake. However, despite being alive, Ash continued to lie motionless on the floor. “Pikachu, use Thunderbolt to wake Ash up.” Jake said to Ash’s Pikachu.
“Pikachu!!” said Pikachu, failing to wake up Ash with electricity.
“What now?” asked Brock.
“Porygon. What’s going on?” Jake asked. Porygon ran more tests.
“It appears though the body is alive, it is without a soul.” said Porygon’s feminine voice.
“What?” Jake asked.
“Oh right, when you die, your soul comes out.” Brock said.
“Oh no, we were too late...” Misty said solemnly, and it seemed all hope was lost.
“Pikachu...” said Ash’s Pikachu.
“Nnngh! There’s gotta be a way...” said Jake, bashing his fists on the keyboard. “Porygon, call Professor Oak.”
“Porygon, Porygon!” said Porygon’s main voice. “Call connecting.” said it’s computer voice.
“Hello?” said the Professor, answering the video phone.
“Professor Oak, it’s me, Jake, with the Pikablu?” Jake started.
“Ah yes, Jake. How are things with you?” asked the Professor.
“Professor Oak, I’m afraid now’s not the time for a chit-chat, Ash Ketchum is dead.” Jake finished.
“Huh? Ash Ketchum is dead?” asked Professor Oak, when suddenly, he was whisked into the internet, and transported to the Viridian City Pokemon Center. “Uhhhh...” said the Professor, dumbfounded.
“Hi Professor.” said Jake.
“Next time ask before doing that!” shouted the Professor.
“Sorry Professor, we just didn’t know what else to do about Ash.” said Misty.
“Well, I’m just a Pokemon Researcher, I’m not sure why YOU THOUGHT I’d know anything about this!” said Professor Oak. “Lucky for you, I do know someone who could help.” Professor Oak put his hand in his lab coat pocket and pulled out a cell-phone, and dialed a number.
“Hey, it’s Professor Oak. Come to Viridian City, we need your assistance.” said the phone call.
Within 30 seconds, an Alakazam appeared in the room, sitting on it it’s trainer, Alex. “Alex?” said Jake, noticing Alex’s hair was once again, Brown.
“Hey guys!” said Alex.
“Alex, Ash Ketchum is dead, can you revive him?” asked Professor Oak.
“Sure can! I got just the Pokemon for the job.” said Alex, grabbing a Poke Ball. “Let’s go, Gengar!”
“Gengar!” said the Shadow Pokemon.
“Okay Gengar, find the soul of Ash Ketchum!” ordered Alex.
“Gengar!” said Gengar, who vanished in thin air. Within a couple minutes, Gengar returned, carrying the soul of Ash Ketchum.
“Hey, what’s going on?” asked the Ash ghost, and Gengar shoved the soul into the body.
“Nnnngh, I’m awake!” said Ash, awakening, and he stood himself up, and his held his head like he had a headache.
“Pikapi!” said Pikachu, happy.
“Ash, you’re alive!” said Misty, so happy to see him back.
“Yes! We thought you were gone forever!” said Brock.

Outside the Pokemon Center, Ash, Misty and Brock were standing opposite Jake, Professor Oak & Alex. The sun had long set, and it was dark.
“Well Ash, our travels together end here.” started Jake. “I’m sure you’re mature enough that you don’t need me. In fact, I’ve started to think I was a burden to you. I mean, my Scyther almost murdered your Pikachu, Giovanni captured your Pikachu, and you were even killed. I better get back on my own path. However, I WILL find out who that assassin is.”
“It was good learning from you Jake, and it was so cool seeing a Porygon so much.” Ash pointed out.
“There is a lot both of us need to learn to become better Pokemon trainers, but I’m sure you will reach the top. Ash, just train that Charizard and it actually will obey you.” He reached for an item ball, and released his convertible. “I’m off!” said Jake, as he sped off into the darkness.
“Goodbye Jake! Hope we meet again!” said Ash, as he and his friends waved goodbye.
“I guess he’s not gonna offer ME a ride...” said the abandoned Professor Oak. Alex just teleported away.
